I found another article on talent vs. training. This time they look at chess grand masters. They found that a grand master's ability to choose the right move didn't come from the ability to think through the hundreds of potential choices faster, nor did they have better memories, rather they had structured knowledge that allowed them to make the right choice. That structured knowledge comes from 'effortful study,' always trying to take the game to a level just beyond current ability.

Again, research shows that motivation is more important than talent. According to the article it takes 10 years of effortful study to become an expert.
